Federal Government Grants For Pregnant Women-Help For Planned And Unplanned Pregnancy
Expectant mothers can benefit from federal government resources that will assist them during and after their terms of pregnancy. The government offers these programs to help pregnant women with prenatal care, disease prevention and nutrition. Many pregnant women can access these federal funds through nonprofit organizations and community agencies in their areas.
Maternal and Child Health
The government has funding for training personnel for health care and related services for mothers and children. These grants are given to institutions for research activities that show promise of a substantial contribution to the progress of maternal and child health services. Some of the grants are for genetic disease testing and others for support activities for improving maternal care. Nonprofit organizations and research institutions are the eligible recipients for this funding. The various services that these organizations offer benefit pregnant women and their children.
The government provides grants for funding maternal and child health projects of national and regional significance. It also funds research and training, counseling, plus information development and dissemination programs. There is a Community Integrated Service Systems (CISS) program that uses funding for its plan to increase the participation of obstetricians and pediatricians in maternal health centers for women and children under the care of a nonprofit organization, and for home visitations for women and their children. Nonprofit institutions of learning are eligible to receive training and research grants. Pregnant women will receive aid from these grants by using the assistance from the eligible organizations.
Healthy Start
One of the reasons the federal government gives grant funding for pregnant women is to help reduce the perinatal health disparities that exist in economically disadvantaged communities. The Healthy Start program sends funds to states that need to build up the infrastructure of urban and rural communities that are trying to support the goals of Healthy Start. The funding is also made available for nonprofit, public and faith-based organizations. Pregnant women have access to community-based maternal and child health programs that address infant mortality, low birth weight and more equal treatment pertaining to racial disparities with perinatal care.
Newborn Screening
The federal government realizes that children need to have the best of care when they're born to thrive and avoid disabilities. One of the ways it accomplishes this is through a grant-funded program for states to reduce the loss of followup care for infants who have not passed a screening examination for their hearing. Many of these types of exams are done to ensure children do not have disabilities or problems with their faculties. Infants who are discharged from the nursery without this evaluation can return to their place of birth and have the screening performed. This funding is made available to reduce the loss of followup care.
Process
The federal government will not give federal funds directly to pregnant women. Many pregnant women can benefit from federal assistance by using the services that are made available to them within the community. The local health department within a particular area can tell pregnant women where to go to access maternal and prenatal services made available through grant funding. The government is proactive in helping economically disadvantaged women in need of perinatal care. Nonprofit organizations that serve pregnant women, such as Planned Parenthood, can be of assistance too. Having healthy children is very important in our society, and the federal government allocates grant funding to fullfill this purpose.
